UNITED STATES: When Dog-Sitting Duty Calls

We used to Puppy Raise Guide Dogs for the blind.

That means we would get purpose-bred puppies when they were about 8 weeks old and give them preliminary training and experiences until they were 18 months to 2 years old.

Then they would go to "college" for advanced training from Certified Guide Dog Trainers.

From 2019 to 2020 we shared Puppy Raising duty, or should I say "privilege", with 2 other Puppy Raisers with a dog named B-Mac.

Allow me the nostalgia of walking down Memory Lane.

CANADA: The Great Outdoors on Vancouver Island

One of the things we love about Victoria on Vancouver Island is the abundance of natural beauty.

Being on the tip of the island there is a stunning coastline to walk and explore.

Boats can head out to sea to look for marine life.

There are an abundance of hiking and biking trails to keep fit.

There is just so much to love about Vancouver Island.

CANADA: Deliveries by Boat

We were up before sunrise to hitch a ride on the delivery boat on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

The Frances Barkley carries mail, freight, groceries and passengers from Port Alberni to remote villages on the winding Alberni Inlet.

Canada's last floating Post Office, in Kildonan, is on its route.

The last stop is Bamfield, a small isolated village on Vancouver Island’s rugged west coast.

CANADA: Victoria's Fisherman's Wharf

Victoria’s Fisherman’s Wharf is one of our morning walk destinations along the inner harbour.

It is about a 15 minute walk from downtown.

Fisherman’s Wharf began as part of Victoria’s commercial fishing harbour where fishing boats brought in salmon, halibut and crab from local waters.

In the 1990s the city redeveloped the docks into a public waterfront space.
