GERMANY: The New Old Frankfurt

The name Neue Alstadt in Frankfurt, (translated to The New Old Town), is a bit of a confusing name. 

How can something new be old? Or something old be new?

Well, the medieval old town of Frankfurt was one of the best-preserved old towns in Central Europe. 

But, in March of 1944, it was almost completely destroyed in a WWII bombing raid.

In 2012, after decades of rubble, the city started the recreation of the historical old town. It was completed in 2018.

The new old town now combines historical architecture with modern design to blend with the remaining historic buildings.

Meeting up in the Frankfurt Airport

John spent the month of September hiking the Camino del Norte from Santander, Spain to Santiago de Compostela, Spain with "The Boys". Over the 5 weeks they walked 600km.

(I wasn't invited, because I am "A Girl".) 

I entertained myself in Italy. 

After 5 weeks, each on our own adventure, we met up in the airport in Frankfurt, with John flying in from Madrid Spain, and me flying in from Catania, Italy. 

And so we start another leg of the nomadic journey.
