The locals do have some secrets to deal with the hills in Lisbon.
One option is to take an elevator.
Some elevators are obvious, and some are hidden in stores, malls, or "modern" buildings.
The most obvious, and not so secret, is the iconic Santa Justa lift (elevator), built in 1902. It connects the Baixa and Chiado neighbourhoods.
If it looks a little familiar, it is because it was designed by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, a protégé of Gustave Eiffel, the designer of the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris.
There are always line-ups to take photos and to ride it, so, we opted to climb the streets and check out the viewing platform instead.
This elevator is free. You may ask be asking "where it is"? If you expand this picture you'll see there is an "Elevador" sign on the red roof. In my humble opinion, not so obvious, since I had to have it clearly pointed out to me.
There are also outdoor escalators to get you to the top.
Some of the escalators are inside. They are not so obvious to tourists that are walking around town enjoying the awesome weather Lisbon has to offer.
