From late December to late February the northern hemisphere Humpback whales migrate from Alaska to Costa Rica's coast.
From late July to early November the southern humpbacks migrate up from Antarctica.
They come to breed and raise their calves.
Because of this, Costa Rica has the longest humpback whale season in the world.
These mammals can weigh more than 40 tons.
We've all seen the National Geographic photos of them jumping out of the water and splashing their tails. (Don't expect to see that here since I use an iPhone.)
We had a beautiful day for whale watching. Sunny with bright blue skies.
We just had a small group so there was no competition to crowd together to see the whales and dolphins.
Our guide was on the lookout.
He watched intently for tell-tale signs.
Patience and passion are his virtues.
Finally we had notice of dolphins, so all the boats scurried over to watch.
They were shy.
Despite the route of over 60kms, still no whales.
You win some and you loose some.
We did end the day with a beautiful sunset.

Thanks Crystal. It’s fun and makes me more observant looking for pretty and interesting things to share. It’s also fun to get people’s feedback. Glad you are enjoying it. (Especially because it’s also time consuming.) Thanks again.
Not sure why that showed up as John’s comment. It’s Linda…
