AUSTRALIA: Perth - Back Home in Our Old Stomping Grounds

We called Perth, in Western Australia, home from 2008 to 2010.

We thought we had won the lottery.

With a Mediterranean climate, (dry, hot summers and temperate winters) an abundance of sunshine everyday, beautiful sandy beaches on 2 rivers and the Indian Ocean, it was an awesome place to call home.

We were super excited to return and walk down memory lane after 13 years.

First things first, was a drive-by of our first home in Perth.

We were a couple minutes walk from an awesome park, Wireless Hill Park, where we'd walk our dog Dawson every day.

Returning to our favourite haunts, we had to go to our dog beach, Leighton Beach, where we'd take Dawson swimming in the Indian Ocean.

There were new dogs that I didn't know, playing and swimming, but I did manage to find a golden retriever to pet and bring back many fond memories.

Then we had to drive by our second home.

It was a 1/2 block up from the Swan River where we'd walk Dawson every day.

Tucked out of the way was a small secret beach where we'd drink adult beverages, play with Dawson, read books and watch the world go by.

Black swans with their distinctive red beaks are the iconic symbol of Western Australia.

The War Memorial in Kings Park, overlooking the CBD.

We did a lot of dog walking and dog swimming when we lived in Perth. We had to retrace some of those steps again.

A short metro train ride to Freemantle, also known as Freo.

The Freemantle Prison, now a Museum.

I love that they kept the façade up in this parking lot.

Perth's CBD has grown.

I love this picture.

The contrast of the boats waiting patiently with Perth's CBD in the background.

I feel like it sums up the attitude of Australians - a strong work-life balance ethic.

Our time in Perth went too quickly.

The small beach looks so peaceful and relaxing. Also, the second home you had looks great with the balcony and the walled garden and hopefully any snakes. retracing your favourite places would bring back so many memories and emotions.

Gordon, it was fun to be back "home" again. Both homes were awesome and each had great points. I was surprised that some things I didn't remember, but then, it started coming back and memories were triggered the more we were there. I LOVED living in Perth. We honestly thought we had won the lottery and were the luckiest people. Linda

It wasn’t luck, my dear. It was hubbie’s opportunistic instinct and brave volunteerism, along with deft negotiation skills, that landed you in Paradise. He’s always thinking about you, you know.

Yes Joe, John did a great job getting us there. Many kudos to John (and Mustang) for making it happen. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to have lived in Perth and it is definitely one of the highlights of my life.
