AUSTRALIA: Dog-Sitting on Our Friends' Vineyard

When we lived in Perth we had friends we used to swap dogs with whenever we went on vacation.

It was a great arrangement for all 6 of us.

Life is full of twists and turns. Fast forward over 13 years….

Our friends now live on their vineyard in Denmark, Western Australia and have a 2 1/2 year old golden retriever.

We went to visit them and then stayed to dog-sit Layla for 2 weeks while they went on a safari in Africa.

We think we died and went to heaven.

May in the southern hemisphere is fall, so harvest was complete.

The vines had mostly lost all their leaves.

Our neighbours included cows,

geese,

and migrant kangaroos.

Now, for the best part.

The resident Vineyard Dog is Layla, who is such a sweet girl.

She loves to fetch sticks

and keep tabs on the cows.

She is a strong athlete and loves to run and fetch.

This makes John very happy.

She loves affection, which makes me very happy.

We took her to a couple of dog beaches.

And exploring.

It was fun looking for the trail with the Fairy Homes.

We enjoyed coffee in town.

As a bonus we also dog-sat her 3 year old cousin for a week.

Zen and Layla are great buddies,

Zen loves to keep an eye on everyone and make sure they are all organized.

Many thanks to Gwen and Paul for generously sharing their world with us while they went on vacation.

We think we got the better deal!

I sense a possibility for your next permanent address.

Joe, it is definitely on the radar! But for right now we are enjoying being Grey Nomads and wandering aimlessly.
