INDIA: The Amber Fort in Jaipur

The Amber Fort was built in 1592 and was later expanded and renovated by successive rulers.

It is located on a hilltop in Amer, a town 11 kilometers from Jaipur, in northern India.

It is a huge fortress that is approximately 4 square kilometers (1.5 square miles.)

The fort's massive walls and interconnected luxurious royal palaces make it one of the largest forts in India.

It served as the capital before Jaipur was established.

It contains 4 palaces and is a blend of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles.

Amber Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It is strategically located on a hill providing a vantage point for defense. The lake at the foot of the fort was also an essential water source for the fort’s inhabitants.

The surrounding mountains were strategic for defense, and, I love mountains, so I think it also gives it a really pretty setting.

The fort is divided into four main courtyards, each with its own palace, gardens, and gateways.

The Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace) is covered in intricate mirror mosaics that reflect light.

The Ganesh Pol is an ornately decorated gateway that is a blend of Hindu and Mughal architectural styles. It is the entry into the private palaces of the Maharajas.

The fort has been featured in Bollywood films.

While there, no one approached us to star in any Bollywood, nor Hollywood, movie.

John will have to be satisfied with me being his paparazzi.

Needless to say, we won’t be able to give up our day jobs.
