GREECE: The Precarious Meteora Monasteries

This spectacular landscape was formed about 60 million years ago.

Over time it was shaped by earthquakes, wind, rain, and other natural phenomena.

Since the 14th century it has been home to Eastern Orthodox monasteries. At one time there were 30 monasteries,

In 1988 they were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

GREECE: Mountain Villages

We stayed a couple of nights in Ioannina in NW Greece and went for a drive in the surrounding area.

There are rolling hills, steep mountains and quaint villages with stone houses.

The area is dotted with stone bridges.

Near Kokon we found this quant little stone bridge built in 1750.

GREECE: Let's Start with Santorini

When I think of Greece some of the images that come to my mind are shimmering blue water, white buildings, crystal clear blue skies, islands, sunshine and sunsets.

The island of Santorini has all those things.

It is a volcanic island with cliffs, a rugged coastline with red, black and white beaches.

CROATIA: Another Sunset

We love Croatia, especially the coast.

The people are warm, generous and inviting.

We never felt nervous or unsafe. Never.

I will admit, I feel sad to leave the coast, crystal clear turquoise water, bright blue sunny skies, warm weather, beautiful quaint villages and imposing mountains.

Until next time.... Siiiiigh.

CROATIA: Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is described as the Pearl of the Adriatic.

I can understand that description.

It truly is very special with its dramatic location at the base of an imposing cliff, crystal clear blue water, and stone walls enclosing the well preserved mediaeval town.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site that we fell in love with.

CROATIA: Island Hopping

There are so many beautiful islands along Croatia's coast.

It is easy to understand why the Dalmatian Coast is on so many people's Bucket List.

CROATIA: Coastal Cities - Zadar, Sibenik and Split

We rented a car and drove down the Dalmatian Coast.

Enroute, we had two nights in Zadar and were able to experience their famous sunset and listen to their Sea Organ.
