There are rolling hills, steep mountains and quaint villages with stone houses.
The area is dotted with stone bridges.
Near Kokon we found this quant little stone bridge built in 1750.
It had to be rebuilt several times over the centuries.
The ridges would have been to prevent slipping, especially for animals hauling carts across the bridge.
A new bridge was built beside it for modern traffic and the older one is no longer used, other than for hiking and photos. When we arrived it was overrun by two tour buses full of university students. You can compare the old vs the new. (I was referring to the bridges.)
The rolling hills around Vikos were covered with trees and their leaves were changing colours in early November.
The colours glowed in the cloudy light and made it look like there was a soft blanket covering the landscape.
This monument, near Skamneli caught my eye. What a pretty place to be remembered and to rest.
We drove through a number of little villages with stone houses. In Kapesovo, even the roofs are stone. The village of Papigo with imposing cliffs as a backdrop.
Easy to see where the stones for the stone houses came from.
