AUSTRALIA: The Gold Coast vs the Sunshine Coast

The Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are two of Australia’s most famous and most popular holiday destinations.

The Gold Coast is located about an hour south of Brisbane while the Sunshine Coast is located about an hour north of the city.

Apparently they have been battling for years to be named the ‘best coast’.

The general consensus is that Gold Coast is all about the glitz, glam and parties.

Being Grey Nomads, glitz, glam and parties are not on our radar so we can offer no first hand experience and opinion on that.

The Gold Coast stretches across 56 km (35 miles) of coastline. It is a string of beautiful sandy beaches.

It's rival, the Sunshine Coast is known to be relaxed and laid-back.

There are over 100 kilometres (62 miles) of sandy beaches on the Sunshine Coast. Boasting rights go to Kings Beach, voted Queensland’s best beach by Surf Life Saving Queensland.

Coming from way far north, growing up in Canada where water freezes in the winter, I couldn't tell where one beach ends and another beach begins.

They all looked beautiful to my untrained eyes.

I was happy enjoying both warm sandy coasts on a gorgeous fall day.
