LONDON: Impressive Architecture

London has some dramatic buildings.

Ever popular is the iconic Elizabeth Tower, better known by the nickname, "Big Ben".

Technically, Big Ben is the name given to the massive bell inside the clock tower, but the name is commonly associated with the whole tower.

The Borough of Westminster, where Big Ben is located, proudly boasts that the iconic silhouette is instantly recognisable and is one of the most Instagrammed landmarks on the planet.

I can imagine that includes a lot of "selfie" photos.

Since Big Ben first rang in 1859, six monarchs and 41 prime ministers have come and gone.

Around Parliament Square, we can see Big Ben and the London Eye, which offers views of London and the surrounding area - on a clear day. And in London, a clear day can never be guaranteed.

Parliament Square is surrounded by some beautiful buildings.

Walking down Whitehall towards Trafalgar Square are some dramatic buildings.

If you look around, and up, you are rewarded with some great architecture.

I am no architecture expert, I just know that I see a lot of beautiful buildings in London.

The Museum of Natural Science

Australia House

The Royal Exchange

And then there are the new buildings that are bigger and taller.

The Shard

The Walkie Talkie

The Gherkin on the right, the Thames in the background

The Gherkin

Battersea Station

And then there are buildings that combine the new within the old

The British Museum

Combined together they make a vibrant and interesting city that attracts people from around the world.

And draws John and I back again and again.
