VIETNAM: School Kids Practicing Their English in Ho Chi Ming City/Saigon

Learning a new language is tough.

Especially if you are linguistically challenged like I am.

These young schoolkids approached us and asked us if they could speak to us.

How can you say no?

This was definitely a highlight of the day!

We were standing outside the iconic Post office waiting for the rest of our group.

When these sweet young kids came up to us and asked us in English if they could speak to us.

Some were shy and some were confident.

They were between 7 and 14 years old and their English skills varied.

This is the script they used to ask us questions. They had to do this for an hour and speak to 20 people. YIKES! I am not too sure who came up with the ideas for the questions, especially #5 and #6.

It is safe to say, their English skills were far better than John's Vietnamese skills.

Without a doubt, this was a highlight of the day!

The same when we visited China with hotel staff and the students at the language school that Susan worked at. The students asked me questions on British political history that I had no idea about.

Gordon, I admire those kids for approaching strangers and practice g their English with us. Some were comfortable, but others clearly weren’t. It sounds like you had fun with it in China. What?!?! You don’t everything about British history?!?
