We love the mountains and think Austria is stunningly beautiful.
We haven't been getting the best of weather with low clouds obscuring the tops of the mountains a lot of the time, but when it hasn't been raining, and especially if the sun has been shining, we get out there!
We find that starting at a higher altitude we have to "work a lot harder" getting up the steeper inclines.
That's our story and we're sticking to it.
We have decided that it has nothing to do with getting older and not being as active as we should be.
But getting out there to enjoy the scenery is definitely a motivator to push ourselves.
Austria is an outdoor enthusiast heaven.
We took a gondola part way up over Innsbruck in the Alps and then continued hiking to the top.
People seemed to get excited about the snow. Growing up with Canadian winters I've seen more snow than you can shake a shovel at, so, I am not impressed with a little snow.
Part way down there was a cafe for a great view over the city of Innsbruck.
Austria also has rolling hills that are very green and lush.
I suppose all the rain we have been getting might have something to do with it being so green.
I love the cows gently grazing oblivious to the beautiful scenery as a backdrop.
It would probably be prudent to learn some German!
Sometimes they stray onto the roads.
Their oversized bells ring as a gentle reminder announcing their presence.

Contented cows give better milk, which makes better chocolate. Or so this City Girl thinks.
And then there are the sheep, even at the high altitude way above the treeline. (We did debate whether these were sheep or goats. Being City Kids we couldn't decide.) They also come with bells.
We didn't see many horses.
Pretty mountain wildflowers adorn the countryside.
There are cute little mountain chalets serving beverages and food for hungry and thirsty hikers.
We enjoy supporting the local economy.
